Project Plan
Mayalpani is a poor community situated in Keraghari Panchkhal VDC ward no. 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 in the country of Nepal. It is made up of mainly low case households of about 100 families. Out of these 100 families, only 10 households have access to water and sanitation. 90% of villagers ease themselves in the open behind nearby bushes on makeshift planks of wood over an uncovered shallow pit. This is not only unsafe for women and children it also poses as a threat to the general health and well-being of the community. Literacy rate is only 5% as 80% of families leave the community to work in a nearby brick factory as contract workers for 6 months. This annual movement prohibits their children from attending school on a regular basis and more than 50% of them discontinue their studies.
Through on-site research and recommendation of True Leadership Harvest Centre (an N.G.O. registered and based in Nepal), X-Border Community Service Ltd has decided to adopt this village as our pilot project. In five years time, we aim to improve this community’s overall standard of living through Integral Community Development (IntegraCD).
Goal
To lift 100 families out of poverty.
Objectives
- Establish an Integra CD Center.
- Equip people in IntegraCD (Integral Community Development).
- Empower lower-income families.
Project Description
Encompasses 4 levels/areas: Families, Community, Center and Training
Family
The goal is to see 100 families within Mayalpani village move out of poverty through IntegraCD.
These families work towards self-reliance by participating in IntegraCD’s five areas (MED, SRH, WAS, CHE & EDU).
Community
Through capacity development, the community will rally its residents to support one another through the following community-based projects:
- Goat Loan
- Landscape Management
- Income Generating Project (Grain Bank)
- Garbage Management
Centre
Positioned to be strategic to surrounding communities, the IntegraCD Center implements the whole project. The Center Manager is also the Project Manager, book-keeper and tutor.
Through the Center, residents will carry out integral community development. The core values of the center are culture sensitivity, grassroots identification and volunteerism.
Disaster Recovery (DRY)
When disaster occurs in the region, the Center will be a coordinating center for local and international relief.
Training
Critical Stage (Mindset Change)
XBCS, together with TLHC, will be responsible for providing IntegraCD training to the local people. Specially designed for low-income communities, the training empowers residents to create their sustainable future.
