Real Hope is Returning

This is indeed an unprecented year worldwide. Many have lost their lives and others, their livelihoods in the pandemic. In spite of the ongoing virus infection in Nepal, our rebuiliding team kept up with the building construction and return housing security to needy families who have been living in tin shelters since the earthquake in 2015.

Earlier this month I was in Battase village following up on the progress of our house rebuilidng works. It was heart warming to see the bright and cheerful colors some of the beneficiaries have nicely painted their new houses. I sensed the pride and joy of living are returning to the families. Sita Devi Poudel has been living in her new house for over a month.

"I was just telling my husband the other night -- No more fear of snakes and rats under our bed we had experienced living in our tin shelter for the past few years. We are now very thankful for the safety and peaceful sleep we get every night.” Sita Devi (right) with her aged mother-in-law in front of her new quake resistant house.

Real hope is returning to many house beneficiaries where the rebuilding has started. Nirmala Banjara is thankful for the gift of the new house and sees the future with renewed hope. She has two grown up children. Her 21 years old son works as a driver and 19 years old daughter is doing her pre-university studies.

Because you gave, life normalcy and settledness have returned to many families as they now live in safe and proper houses. A BIG THANK YOU!  As I survey the need of housing in other affected areas, many poor villagers are still living in their makeshift tin shelters since the earthquake. I can tell many of these families are wondering when they would ever live in a safe and proper house again.

My heart says; “Let’s build for them. No one should be deprived of a basic decent life.”

Wishing everyone a fruitful and impactful 2021
