Real Heroes of Rebuilding

We have been focusing on house beneficiaries and their stories, which has garnered good attention and responses. It is one thing to gift a house and quite another to get to know the families who will transform that house into a home.

Peace HomeIt continues to be a tremendous privilege for us to be invited into homes for tea because of your generous donations -- Thank You!

This time, we turn our attention to the unsung heroes of Rebuilding — our masons and their group of workers. We have 6 teams led by 6 skilled builders: Bijay, Shambhu, Prakash, Dilip, Raju and Budhi.

They work in different villages, silently and steadily, in remote areas where there are no beds, no heating & no running tap water. All they get are basic accommodation offered by grateful house beneficiaries. Often times their own houses lie in ruin while they are away from their families for months at a time for work. For meals, they cook and eat very frugally — usually rice with pickles so they can send the bulk of their earnings home. Meat is a rarity in their diet.

We honour their hard work and dedication.

When you gift a house, you are not just returning housing security to earthquake survivors, you are also enabling skilled workers a chance to earn a decent wage and with it, to rebuild their own houses and provide a better tomorrow for their children.

To date, we have returned safe housing to 140 families in 7 areas. We will soon start surveying in two new areas, Panchkal and Sanga, targeting to rebuild some 50 houses as the need arises.
