Building for Good
KAVRE, NEPAL: REBUILDING (MAY 2019) A small thanksgiving gathering for 220 house beneficiaries was held in Banepa on 31 March. We had a photo exhibition, screened a documentary and gave each family a commemorative booklet celebrating their post-quake life stories. Their wide-eyed wonder at seeing photographs of themselves in print and on screen quickly translated into a personal sense of dignity and achievement for them. Their new found hope and confidence makes this project worth continuing for good.
Returning housing security to survivors of the destructive earthquake in 2015 is one of the most significant and rewarding work of my life in Nepal for the past twenty years. The disaster turned out to be an opportune time to embody love by giving safe housing to the elderly, widows, disadvantaged and marginalised families affected by the quake.
We are grateful to our donors – friends, family, network, churches and organizations in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Australia and Brunei who have contributed to this rebuilding project. Thank you for your generosity, kindness and compassion. We are also privileged to have Faith and Work Nepal partner with us in executing this work. Without whom, this project would not have achieved this level of success.
In total, we have built 220 earthquake resistant houses. This is but a fraction of the over 600,000 houses that were completely destroyed by the earthquake. In view of this great need, we plan to continue this good work by building as many houses as possible. We look to our faithful God to provide through generous hands such as yours.
