Thank You for the Hand-Up

KAVRE, NEPAL: REBUILDING UPDATE PRAKASH BHAI (second from right) is a young man from Baral Gaon village. After the quake, he was hired by our rebuilding team as an apprentice iron-worker. He works with 4 other young men to cut and bend reinforcement bars according to specification. Today, not only has he saved up enough money to help his family rebuild their house, he is now a competent rebar worker – a valuable skill that is in demand for Nepal’s construction boom. Far better than a charitable hand-out, Prakash now has a future and a hope. He is grateful to everyone who made it possible for him to receive a hand-up like this.

Purna Darsan of Nala village

Bal Mijar of Opi village

Purna Darsan and Bal Mijar need special additional assistance. They are among 7 most needy beneficiaries who require help to build their walls. Purna has spent all his money in trying to comply with road setback requirements and Bal Mijar needs to replace his CGI walls with bricks in order to receive full government compensation.

DISASTER REHABILITATION: Sustainable Livelihood

In Progress: 3,000 sqm organic farm to help needy families generate extra income.

After rebuilding comes rehabilitation. To enable house beneficiaries to work and earn again, we started an income-generating organic farm for families who do not have land or livelihood. The farm provides employment and assistance for those who want to start their own businesses to support themselves. We believe the game changer lies in our upcoming organic piggery!
